Why catching up with Indian guy buddies in America is easy.

I have noticed one thing. Even for someone who may be extremely anti-social and introverted in normal circumstances, pathetically incapable of making light banter with less familiar people, when it comes to catching up with your Indian boy-chums in Uncle Sam land - breaking ice is really easy.
Today morning I thought I have to explain why. Simply put, there is just too much in common. We were in the same pathetic circumstances, and we still are. Nothing's changed, its all one hell hole. Here are some common woes and joys:

1. Indian men yearn. They yearn for better times, for the eternal sunshine of Ramakundam(where its 130 F in the shade). We dont crave, mind you. Thats below our dignity. But we yearn for those freeways and the maddu messes side by side, sambhar and doughnuts together and whiskey and sarasaparilla juice cocktail kind of things.

2. Indian men have no women. At the same time, we have extremely high standards. Its brain vs. instinct, and brain almost always wins. So its the same wonderous praise for some woman we saw on the streets. Did you talk to her? No, not my type. You still single? Yes, what else is there?

3. Indians do stuff. Salsa dancing, boxing, roller blading, volleyball, badminton. You name it, we do it. We might suck at it, but its the enthusiasm that counts. So next time you want to play lacrosse and dont have a buddy, give me a call.

4. At the bottom of our hearts, we are all nerds. It might take some time for an indian male to start enjoying a nerdy conversation, but start talking about quarks and why robust optimization cannot be applied to assymetric graphs in a convoluted vector space with infinite dimensions...(you get the point, I move on), and slowly eyes will start to light up and faces will start twitching. Yes! They are listening! Obviously, they all went to engineering school. Remember the last time you tried pulling that off at a whitish party and only the bouncers were intrigued?

So next time you meet that grown up Indian buddy of yours after much aeons, dont despair. Yearnings, ladies, volleyball or technology - one of these should do the trick.
